Victorian 18KT Braided Keeper Ring
Dated 1900; Chester, England. This beautiful Victorian "keeper" ring features an 18KT gold braided design. The keeper ring was fashioned to keep a more expensive ring from accidentally slipping off your finger. As diamond rings became more popular, various styles of keeper rings were used to protect the ring - gold bands, enamel bands, diamond bands. The keeper ring eventually evolved into the wedding band.
