Victorian French Dormeuse Earrings
Dating to circa 1880, these French Victorian dormeuse earrings are crafted in 18KT yellow gold, featuring embossed floral motifs surrounded by deeply sculpted petals and foliage. Each earring features a raised flower with textured petals, framed by a circular arrangement of finely detailed botanical ornament. Broad, overlapping leaves extend beneath the floral centers, creating a layered composition with alternating polished and textured surfaces.
The earrings are suspended from curved dormeuse-style ear wires, allowing the floral elements to move naturally when worn.
Floral motifs remained popular throughout the Victorian period, reflecting the era's fascination with botanical forms. Rather than relying on gemstones for decoration, these earrings use repoussé-like relief, contrasting textures, and the reflective qualities of gold to create depth and movement.
