Midcentury Bacchus Cameo
Circa 1950. This captivating midcentury cameo, hand-carved from banded agate shell, is framed in warm 14KT yellow gold. Based on the iconography of the cameo, the mythological scene likely depicts Bacchus (Dionysus)—the god of wine and revelry—receiving an offering from a winged figure (possibly a muse or nymph), with cherubs or putti accompanying the scene. The high-relief carving showcases superb detail and movement—note the expressive musculature, flowing hair, and textured landscape. Elegant and evocative, this brooch is a beautiful work of art.
