Midcentury Navajo Silver Turquoise Cuff

Circa 1960. This Gilbert Martin vintage cuff features a large freeform turquoise stone with bold matrix patterning in earthy charcoal and brown tones, framed in a thick, hand-fabricated sterling silver bezel. The turquoise comes from the Cripple Creek Mine in Colorado. The cuff showcases Navajo leafwork, fan stampings, and applied flower and scroll motifs. The asymmetrical silver arrangement adds visual motion and texture, balancing the size and irregularity of the central stone. The shank is a substantial, tapering three-rail split band, detailed with hand-stamped linework and side flourishes. The interior is hallmarked “G. MARTIN” and “Sterling.” Gilbert Martin is a Navajo silversmith, known for crafting traditional squash blossom necklaces, often in a sand-cast, heavy-gauge sterling silver style.
