Circa 1840. This sweetly sentimental 18KT intaglio ring features the figure of a sleeping cherub carved in carnelian, reclining on a cloud. This ring is most likely a memorial piece. The sleeping cherub symbolizes the death of a child who has ascended to heaven and now rests peacefully. The cloud reinforces the idea of a heavenly realm for a pure and beloved young soul.
