1930s Old European-Cut Diamond Solitaire
Dating to circa 1930, this Art Deco-era 14KT white gold solitaire ring features a 1.94-carat old European-cut diamond with VS2 clarity and L color, secured in a prong setting. The gently tapered, polished white gold shank provides a restrained setting for the substantial center diamond.
The shank's interior bears an Austrian gold hallmark associated with Vienna, along with the maker's mark FM. The ring is approximately a size 6.75.
Old European-cut diamonds are distinguished by their rounded outlines, relatively high crowns, small tables, and often larger culets. Cut to emphasize broad flashes of light rather than the finer scintillation of modern brilliant cuts, they remained popular in fine jewelry during the early decades of the 20th century. This ring allows the distinctive character of its antique diamond to take center stage.
Appraised Value: $16,200
The ring measures 8.9mm at the top, rises 6.4mm above the finger, tapering to 1.7mm wide and 1.1mm thick at the base of the shank.
Ring sizing is complimentary for most of our pieces and takes approximately two weeks. If the ring needs to be sized up 2 or more sizes, there will be an added charge depending on the piece.
