Circa 1950 Midcentury Aquamarine & Diamond Cocktail Ring
Dating to circa 1950, this 18KT gold cocktail ring centers on an impressive 15.30-carat oval brilliant-cut natural aquamarine, held by four minimal gold prongs that leave the gemstone remarkably unobstructed. The aquamarine's scale is balanced by compact platinum-set diamond shoulders, each accented with three single-cut diamonds.
Cocktail rings came into their own during the 20th century as jewelry became increasingly about scale, color, and individual expression. By the Midcentury period, a single large colored gemstone could carry an entire design. Here, the jeweler wisely resisted surrounding the aquamarine with excessive ornament.

The ring measures 25.3mm wide and 10.5mm tall at the top, tapering to 1.8mm wide and 0.9mm thick at the bottom of the shank.
