Victorian Bacchus Cameo Brooch/Pendant
Circa 1900. This captivating midcentury cameo, hand-carved from shell, is framed in a warm 14KT yellow gold bezel. Based on the cameo's iconography, the mythological scene likely depicts Bacchus (Dionysus)—the god of wine and revelry—receiving an offering from a winged figure (possibly a muse or nymph), with cherubs or putti accompanying the scene. The high-relief carving showcases superb detail and movement—note the expressive musculature, flowing hair, and textured landscape. Elegant and evocative, this brooch is a beautiful work of art, signed by the carver.
Appraised Value: $6,000
The brooch measures 103mm long by 80mm wide.
