Victorian 18KT Pearl Bangle

Circa 1890, this substantial late Victorian bangle is crafted in 18KT yellow gold and bezel-set with pearls set among sculptural, scrolling goldwork. The asymmetrical openwork design reflects the naturalistic aesthetic emerging at the close of the Victorian era and anticipates the fluid forms of Art Nouveau.

The bracelet retains its hinged construction and safety chain, while a series of character marks appear along the interior of the bangle. Pearls were among the most prized gems of the Victorian period and were closely associated with love, purity, and devotion.
