Midcentury Diamond Ring with Baguettes
Created during the 1950s, this platinum solitaire beautifully bridges the romance of an earlier diamond with the clean, architectural lines of midcentury design. At its center rests a 0.95-carat old European-cut diamond (SI1 clarity, N color), flanked by two channel-set tapered baguette-cut diamonds totaling approximately 0.14 carats (VVS2 clarity, E-F color).
During the mid-twentieth century, many treasured old European-cut diamonds were remounted into contemporary settings. These "marriages" preserved beloved family diamonds while embracing modern design, creating jewels that honor two distinct periods of craftsmanship. Today, such rings are especially admired for combining the individuality of hand-cut diamonds with the understated elegance of midcentury jewelry.
Appraised Value: $6,100
The ring measures 6.3mm wide at the top, rises 8.0mm above the finger, tapering to 1.6mm wide and 1.2mm thick at the base of the shank.
