Edwardian Diamond & Pearl Pendant

Dating to circa 1910, this Edwardian necklace features a platinum-topped 18KT yellow gold pendant suspended from an 18-inch platinum cable-link chain. Its open, asymmetrical composition of curling stems, leaves, flowers, diamonds, and seed pearls gives the pendant the delicacy and movement characteristic of Edwardian jewelry. The diamonds weigh approximately 3.11 carats in total, with SI1-I1 clarity and H-J color. 

One of the great achievements of Edwardian jewelry was its ability to make substantial gemstones appear remarkably light. Platinum's strength allowed jewelers to create finer settings, slender connections, pierced designs, and expanses of open space that would have been difficult to achieve in softer gold alone. Here, the metalwork almost disappears into the composition, leaving the diamonds, pearls, and botanical lines to seemingly float against the skin.
