Art Deco Filigree Diamond Ring
Dating to circa 1920, this Art Deco filigree ring features a .39-carat round transitional brilliant-cut natural diamond with SI2 clarity and G color, secured in a four-prong setting. The diamond is framed by an intricately pierced mounting with engraved geometric and scrolling foliate details.
The openwork design extends along the shoulders and beneath the center diamond, where delicate scrolls, linear accents, and finely textured borders create an airy, architectural setting. The ornamentation gradually narrows into the shank, giving the ring an intricate appearance without excessive weight or bulk.
Filigree rings of the early 20th century often combined delicate openwork with engraving to create intricate designs using relatively little metal. Here, the pierced construction is more than decoration: it allows light and space to become part of the design, while the transitional-cut diamond reflects the evolving diamond-cutting techniques of the period.
