Circa 1960 Midcentury Sapphire & Diamond Floral Bracelet

Dating to circa 1960, this substantial 18KT white gold bracelet combines broad, finely textured links with ten sapphire and diamond floral clusters. The softly patterned surface gives the gold an almost fabric-like appearance, providing a quiet backdrop for the concentrated color and light of the gemstones.

Each flower features a prong-set round mixed-cut natural sapphire surrounded by round brilliant-cut diamonds. The ten sapphires weigh approximately 1.57 carats in total, while the 42 diamonds total approximately 3.78 carats, with SI1-SI2 clarity and G-H color. Rather than forming one continuous diamond surface, the clusters are spaced across the bracelet, allowing the textured gold to become part of the composition.

Measuring 7 inches, the bracelet features a concealed box clasp and two figure-eight safety catches, so the fastening disappears into the design when worn.

Texture became an important element of many Midcentury gold jewels. Rather than relying solely on gemstones for decoration, jewelers manipulated the metal's surface through engraving, stippling, Florentine-style finishes, and other texturing techniques.
