Art Deco Emerald & Old Mine-Cut Diamond Ring
Dating to circa 1920, this platinum Art Deco ring features an oval mixed-cut emerald framed by four precisely fitted triangular French-cut emeralds, weighing 1.18 total carats. Together, the five emeralds create the appearance of a larger geometric emerald centerpiece, with the triangular cuts filling the corners and transforming the oval into an architectural composition.
Flanking the emerald are two substantial old mine-cut natural diamonds totaling 2.28 carats, graded VS2-SI1 clarity and I-J color. Fine milgrain outlines the geometric panels, while pierced work and hand-engraved floral and wheat motifs extend along the shoulders and side surfaces.
This ring illustrates a great strength of Art Deco jewelry: gemstones become architecture. At the same time, the jeweler didn't abandon earlier traditions. Antique old mine-cut diamonds sit beside sharply organized Deco geometry, while floral and wheat engraving softens the platinum framework. The ring is approximately a size 7.25.
Appraised Value: $30,100
The ring measures 9.6mm at the top, rises 5.0mm above the finger, tapering to 1.8mm wide and 1.2mm thick at the base of the shank.
Ring sizing is complimentary for most of our pieces and takes approximately two weeks. If the ring needs to be sized up 2 or more sizes there will be an added charge depending on the piece.
