Victorian Hand-Painted Tourist Brooch
Circa 1840. This beautifully detailed Victorian hand-painted brooch features vignettes of Indian landmarks from the era of the Mughal Empire, most prominently the Taj Mahal. The painting itself is bezel-set in 15KT gold. Most likely, this brooch was purchased by a tourist - a souvenir of his/her time in India.
Clockwise from top: Qutab Minar Column/Minaret in New Dehli; Tomb of Safdar Jantg; Courtyard of the Taj Mahal; Agra Fort Complex; Itmad-ud-Daula Tomb; possibly the Amber Fort in Jaipur; Red Fort in Old Dehli; Jama Masjid Mosque in Old Dehli.
