  • Piece of the Week: Egyptian Revival Scarab Ring

egyptian-revival-scarab-ring Vintage Egyptian Revival Scarab Ring

I am an enormous fan of animal jewelry and symbolic jewelry! This piece is both. In ancient Egypt, it was believed Ra, the sun god, rolled across the sky each day transforming bodies and souls. The scarab came to be a symbol of this journey. This particular piece dates from the 1920's when King Tut's tomb was excavated and there was a craze for everything Egyptian.

  • Dolce and Gabbana, Coin Jewelry Inspiration

This season Dolce and Gabbana continued to draw their  inspiration From the Sicilian, Italian classics.

For Spring, they focused on a mixture of ionic ruins, immeshed with the timeless fascination of Fellini's surrealism, dashed with a generous sprinkling of fantastic ornate earrings and gold coins.

Primarily hand cut with the aid of early machines, Old Mine cut stones are each uniquely beautiful. The predecessor to the Old European cut and brilliant cut, from the top, they look like a gently rounded square. A deep cut, they have a high crown, small table and flat culet.
